刺客

Genre: Alt Pop

Release date: August 31, 2026

Label: ABY

After releasing her first track several weeks ago, Fann dropped another song, 刺客 (Assassin), on August 31, 2026. Fann’s musical attitude has always felt sharp and distinctive, and even the title sounds cold and ruthless.

She casts herself as a crazy assassin, writing to someone she is attracted to. The relationship seems to come out of nowhere, and instead of staying trapped in ambiguity, she would rather take control and end it in her own dramatic, almost romantic way, even though she still has feelings for that person. To me, that is the most interesting part of the song: she wants to decide how this relationship begins, develops, and eventually ends. Throughout the track, a deliberately playful, slightly mischievous edge runs beneath the aggression.

Musically, the song starts with a bouncy drum beat. Both the kick and snare sound strong, short, and extremely precise, almost like the assassin is jumping from place to place while secretly following her target. When she sings, “Why don’t I let you go? Because I know you’re waiting for me too,” it suddenly sounds much more bitter. Behind all the confidence, she still believes they share something.

I also love how she switches between Mandarin, French, and even a little Japanese, which somehow makes this assassin character feel even more real, unpredictable, and versatile. In the music video, she slowly writes the Chinese character “爱” (love) in red ink with a traditional calligraphy brush, stroke by stroke. It feels ironic because love is clearly there, but she cannot seem to express it directly. Maybe underneath all the playful jumping and mischievous energy, there is still a broken heart.
