“I Want U” was released on August 27, 2026, and will appear on FKJ’s third studio album, Tyber. Interestingly, the vocal hook dates back a decade. FKJ and Eryn Allen Kane first improvised and recorded the hook around ten years ago, then built the rest of the song around it. The finished track carries a kind of “Prince-like sensuality,” which feels especially fitting considering that Prince invited Eryn Allen Kane to contribute vocals to his 2015 song “Baltmore.”
Musically, the song draws from funk, soul, and touches of gospel. It opens with a funky guitar riff and soft vocal humming, immediately setting up its loose and fluid groove. When the vocals come in, the arrangement stays relatively minimal, leaving plenty of space around Eryn’s voice. There are also small moments of piano improvisation between the vocal lines, which make the track feel even freer and more spontaneous.
During the interlude, the production leans more on percussion rather than a heavy drum pattern, keeping the mood intimate instead of pushing the song too hard. Later, the brass section joins in and gradually opens up the arrangement, almost like an invitation to the dance floor. Even as the instrumentation becomes fuller, the song never loses that relaxed, sensual feeling.
The lyrics are just as direct as the music. At its core, the song simply revolves around the idea of “I want u,” wanting someone both physically and emotionally. The desire is immediate and completely open.
