On July 10, aron! released his new song, “Not For A Lack Of Trying,” the latest single from his upcoming debut album. He had already performed it live on Sunday Brunch on July 5, a few days before the full song dropped.

The song moves through a bright, guitar-led indie-pop arrangement, with a melody that is almost too easy to sing along to. aron! even tagged the song with John Mayer, and you can hear some of that influence in the relaxed guitar playing and the way he lets the vocal sit naturally on top of it.

Lyrically, he is trying to accept that a relationship did not work out, even though he really did give it a chance. The repeated “it’s not for a lack of trying” could have made this a very sad song, but aron! keeps it moving. The music is warm, light and a little playful, while the lyrics are quietly taking the loss.

aron! has brought exactly the right vibe to fight against this cruel summer heat, and it works.

His debut album, Too Close For Running, will be out on September 18. We are seated.
