On September 25, Max Main released his new EP Playboy, and I’m genuinely impressed by the production quality of its title track. It’s catchy, energetic, and has some serious personality.

I love the arrangement here. The track has a driving rhythm, with a strong low end that keeps everything moving. The verses pull back in volume before the fuller chorus comes in, giving that repeated “sweet-talking playboy” hook a much bigger impact.

I’m getting some Elton John and David Bowie influences, especially with the glam-rock attitude. The line about being back by popular demand immediately reminded me of Elton John’s “The Bitch Is Back.” The theatrical delivery also works really well with the production.

Lyrically, I find it hilarious that he’s singing about revenge and repeatedly claiming he doesn’t need someone while clearly still having feelings for them. Sure, whatever you say, playboy.

The contrast between the quieter verses and louder choruses is well handled, the hook is ridiculously catchy, and the whole track makes me want to hear what else Max Main has been working on.
