If I had to pick a song that captures what I love about Naked Eyes’ Always Something There to Remind Me, Chandeliers’ Crazy 4 U might be one of the closest modern answers.

Released as part of their Aug. 28 EP 4 U, Crazy 4 U caught me because it brings back a kind of pop sound that feels almost weirdly rare now: synth, drums, electric guitar, bass and vocals, all allowed to sound big without being buried under a million ideas.

There’s something very direct about it. The synth gives it that slightly dramatic, ’80s-pop glow, while the guitars and full-band feel keep it from turning into retro cosplay. That’s where the Naked Eyes comparison really comes in for me — both songs understand how a few simple elements can still create something huge, romantic and instantly memorable.

It reminds me a little of Alexander 23’s melodic instincts, just pushed somewhere more alternative and less emotionally catastrophic. Alexander 23, but alt vibe, not trying-to-kill-himself vibe.

Maybe that’s what I like most about Crazy 4 U. It isn’t trying to prove how complicated pop can be. It just reminds me how satisfying pop can sound when the right few things are simply allowed to hit.
