“Indecision” was finally released on August 19, 2026. The song had already circulated among Daniel Caesar fans as an unreleased track for several years before its official release. Rex Orange County and Daniel had also worked together before, releasing “Rearrange My World / There’s a Field (That’s Only Yours)” in 2025.

This song is about a relationship that is already falling apart, but neither person is fully ready to end it. Something has clearly changed, yet he keeps asking himself: if I leave, what happens next? He keeps looking for reassurance, trying to understand what his absence would actually mean to the other person. He is afraid of losing the relationship, but underneath, that fear is the possibility that the other person might be perfectly fine without him, or even leave to be with someone else.

The song is a guitar-led R&B ballad, warm but heartbreaking, and it captures a feeling that is difficult to put into words. Rex Orange County’s more conversational phrasing makes it sound like someone repeatedly asking the same question because he still cannot make a decision. Caesar’s softer delivery adds another layer of sadness, almost like he is saying: I’m probably leaving soon, but if I finally say everything out loud, is there still any chance for us?

The production stays quite simple and slightly nostalgic. Instead of leaning heavily on the electric keys often heard in Caesar’s earlier work, the song puts the guitar at the center. In the middle of the track, the guitar becomes more distorted, with a squealing tone that briefly breaks through the softness of the arrangement. It sounds like the uncertainty itself was highlighted, as if the song is suddenly asking: do I really want to leave?
