Let’s Start A Cult
Release date: Aug 7, 2026
Genre: Pop/Indie Folk
Label: Harbour Artist & Music
On August 7, slimdan released Let’s Start a Cult!, a strange little pop song that begins in the aftermath of an argument. He knows he hurt someone, they have reached the point where love and resentment can exist in the same conversation, and sitting around thinking about it clearly isn’t helping. His solution is beautifully unreasonable: start a cult, move into the hills, live off fish, and somehow get rich “the way that God intended.”
The song carries that idea with goofy, childlike conviction. Its melody has a playful Paul McCartney-style bounce, while small electronic sounds are tucked neatly into the arrangement. When the section repeats, a harmonica suddenly slips in and makes the whole thing even stranger. Every new detail supports the fantasy without making the production crowded.
“It’s just for me, it’s just for you.”
I still can’t fully decipher whether Let’s Start a Cult! is about repairing a relationship, escaping adulthood, or building a private world with one person who understands you. Either way, by the fourth “let’s start a cult,” I’m joining.
