Dean Ting released “Crush on the Moon (凌月),” the first single from his upcoming album, on July 25, 2026. He said that the song was almost finished back in 2023, but it took another three years before he finally released it. He also shared his excitement about working with musicians from around the world and said that he hoped fans would enjoy the new album. He also mentioned that Retro (月球) was the label that released his very first album, which makes this release feel like a return to where his career began.

The song was inspired by Dean’s love of moon photography. After capturing a plane passing across the face of the moon, he imagined a relationship following the same path: two people seem to meet and move closer, but the moment does not last. They slowly drift apart, and the relationship fades away.

In Chinese culture, the moon is often connected with missing someone who is far away. From my perspective, the lyrics may describe someone falling for a person who is already in a complete relationship and therefore emotionally unavailable.

Dean wrote, composed, arranged, and produced the whole song himself. The track is still built around R&B, the musical language he often uses, but the cinematic strings make the sound feel wider and more emotional. The strings were performed by the Matt Jones Orchestra, while Justin Raines played bass, Elijah Kai played guitar, and Zhang Shunyao played drums. This was also the first time Dean took part in mixing one of his own songs. He mixed the track with Zhao Jing, and Colin Leonard handled the mastering.

The lyrcis of this song is so beautiful. The chorus uses short four-character Chinese phrases, giving the lyrics a clean and slightly classical feeling. It also quietly matches the mood of the coming Mid-Autumn Festival, while the rhythm still keeps a modern R&B flow.
