Luvsick

Release date: Jul 24, 2026

Genre: House / J- Pop

Label: Special Dialing Memories

Ask me which emerging producer has some of the most interesting ideas right now, and Uta Tanabe is absolutely entering the conversation. Tanabe is a musician, producer, multi-instrumentalist and engineer whose background begins in classical music and jazz piano, then moves through soul, funk, hip-hop and electronic music.

Released July 24 with eritanimoto, “Luvsick” lands somewhere between house-driven electronic pop and J-pop. The house influence comes through in the steady rhythmic pulse, while the harmony and vocal arrangement carry more detail than a straightforward dance track usually needs.

The background vocals are especially important. They fill spaces around the main vocal, answer certain phrases and sometimes merge with the synthesizers closely enough that the voices begin functioning like another instrument. That matches Tanabe’s wider approach to vocal arranging and dimensional production. The keys also carry a lot of the song’s character, moving through colorful harmony while the programmed rhythm keeps everything grounded.

Once again, it is another reminder that Uta Tanabe is somebody I will keep checking for whenever new production credits appear.
