Going South

Release date: Jul 24, 2026

Genre: Indie Pop / Rock

Label: Independent

On July 24, Brock Taylor released “Going South,” written by Brock and produced by John Taylor. The song starts right in the middle of a crisis: he throws away his phone, parks somewhere nobody would think to look, and cuts himself off from everyone around him.

In the pre-chorus, Brock sings about being close to doing something that could leave him with scars. Then the sirens enter the chorus, making the scene sound even more urgent. “I hear those sirens blaring / I think that they’re just a little too loud” is especially unsettling because of how calmly he describes it.

The strongest line is “I’m going south / just like you said I would.” It sounds like everything is falling apart while somebody else’s judgment is still stuck in his head. The discarded phone, parked car, scars, and sirens give the song a clear scene instead of describing pain in a vague way. “Going South” is dark and direct, and does hit hard.
