UK artists Nia Archives and Jorja Smith released their new single Get Me Down, alongside a music video, on Friday July 10, ahead of Nia Archives’ album release, emotional junglist, on July 17, under HIJINXX and Island Records.

Junglist Nia Archives has been bringing back UK underground dancehall sounds in new and fresh ways, and this track is a continuation of this. Jorja Smith’s smooth and breathy R&b vocals sit atop a rough and dirty drum and bass mix with cleanly cut drum chops.

The intro is therapeutic and meditative with reverberative bird sounds and textured strings patches, a call back to the vibe of earlier drum and bass tracks like Aquarius’ Dolphin Tune, which famously features dolphin calls over a low-tempo synth, drum and bass tracks.

Smith’s ethereal and thickly layered harmonies blend well inside of the track rather than sitting atop the mix as in most pop songs, and the cleanly tremolo’d vocal flips in the chorus really add to the track, and her singing and belting is deeply emotive.
