SIENNA SPIRO might be one of the most obvious “next big artist” names right now, currently pushed by UMG.

On July 3, she released her debut album Visitor, and “Great Expectation” is the song that made me stop first. I have not fully lived with the whole album yet, but this track already explains a lot of the hype.

It is very Adele in a way: big voice, big hurt, and that kind of performance where anger and sadness are sitting in the same room. The song is about knowing someone will probably never become the person you hoped they would be, but still choosing the idea of them because it feels safer than letting go completely.

That is such a specific kind of heartbreak. You are not only missing the person. You are also missing the version of them you built in your head.

Great Expectation sounds like a British comeback single from another decade, but with enough bite to make it feel current. I still need to spend more time with Visitor, but this one already has me seated!
