I Need A Minute – Krystyn

Release date: Oct. 23, 2026

Genre: R&B

Label: Insanity Records

Krystyn dropped her debut EP, Cool Girl Vol.1, on October 23, 2026. A singer-songwriter from Glasgow’s South Side, she draws on jazz, bossa nova, and pop. Her Instagram videos look great, and one of them went viral, which is how I discovered her songs.

I love how warm her voice sounds on the whole EP. It reminds me of sipping mulled wine on a cold winter night. In this song, she sounds torn between telling someone how sad she feels and keeping it to herself. She knows what she wants to say, but she doesn’t know whether it will come out wrong.

I Need A Minute feels like the cover art to me. I picture Krystyn waking up in the woods, still thinking about the dream she just had. At first, only the soft, woody sound of an acoustic guitar sits behind her voice. Then the piano comes in during the pre-chorus with these short, crisp chords that stand out.

Each day I throw more and more away

The sweater that you gave me

Thinking it could save me from

Being so cold

The sweater is a personal detail that makes you think of things people you loved have given you in your own life. After singing about how sad the person makes her and how much she’s been throwing away lately, she still remembers thinking that sweater could keep her warm. “I need a minute, I” instead of singing I need a minute, can be understood as her really wanting to express her feelings.

The whole song, to me, feels like she still loves them, but she hesitates to say it out loud because the person was breaking her heart too deeply.
