On Sep 11, Cornwall-based rock pop artist Peri Rae released her new single All You Can Eat. The title completely lured me in the wrong direction. I was expecting something cheeky, maybe literally an all-you-can-eat buffet. Instead, it becomes all you can eat, all you can buy, all you can change about yourself, and eventually, all the world can take from you.

Rae throws Ozempic, overdrafts, trust-fund record deals, billionaires, beauty standards and political exhaustion into the same breathless world. I really appreciate songs that get this specific about living inside a system you know is fucked up while still having to participate in it. Even the single cover gets that across perfectly. She is in the car screaming all of these messages out, yet she is still inside it, still driving, still heading down the same road.

Musically, the song gets more wound up as it goes too. The guitars keep pushing, the drums make everything feel slightly rushed, and Rae’s vocal starts sounding less like she is singing through an idea and more like she is just trying to get all of it out before the song ends. That messiness really works here. There are so many things being sold to us at once, so many things we are supposed to care about, fix, buy into or ignore, and by the end she sounds completely fed up with all of it.
