Jacob Collier is bringing back In My Room for its 10-year anniversary edition on July 1, 2026, with old demos and vault tracks from the world that first introduced a lot of us to his bedroom-universe musicianship.
For Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Jacob goes even further back: his current self is basically duetting with his 13-year-old self on the Jerome Kern and Otto Harbach classic. It might not be my favorite Jacob track, or my favorite rendition of this song, but the idea itself is kind of insane in the sweetest way. How often do we get to hear an artist meet their younger self, rebuild the memory, and share it with the world?
The performance feels less like a cover and more like a time capsule that somehow learned new chords. You can hear the younger voice, the older brain, and the same impossible musical instinct running through both.
Also, damn. I did not know 13-year-old Jacob could hit those notes. I see you.
